How employees can increase engagement on your LinkedIn posts

Engagement. It's what we all want, right? We put something out there into the ether and we want to know that people actually see it and like it.

Before I dive into tips on how to get more engagement on LinkedIn though, it's important to know what engagement (i.e. analytics) means. Because not all engagement is equal, depending on your content strategy goals! Hootsuite has a great article: LinkedIn Analytics: The Complete Guide for Marketers

Young employees at a table. Improve reach on LinkedIn posts by getting staff involved

The good news is, on LinkedIn, people are very apt to engage because the social networking site is all about just that: networking. They're motivated to make real connections and be seen, virtually or otherwise.

Many employees play a key role in extending the reach  (i.e. appear across more users screens) of a company's social post. Here are some basic tips on how your employees can interact with your posts to get organic engagement and increase their reach.

01. Like the post

This is obvious and simple but even a like will increase reach on a post, as it will show on individual LinkedIn pages that the content was liked, and it'll get further reach.

02. Add a thoughtful comment (bonus: tag others in the comment)

Adding helpful, genuine comments will increase engagement. Others will see the comment and spend more time with the post, which the algorithm catches. Also, if the comment links to something else, or tags someone else, who then comments, it will add more engagement.

03. Don't just share; share intentionally!

Don't just click 'share' and 'post'. Add your own authentic caption that tells *your* personal audience what they're about to read and why it matters. Or add further insight to the post.

Have an inside perspective? Or can you candidly share more details (within reason)? For example, if there's an webinar posted, share it and say, "I'll be attending and I look forward to learning ____ to ____(solve problem X)____"

04. Click through the links and images; Watch the whole video

Even if you've seen the media before, click through the link or swipe through the slider. The algorithm picks this up and thinks, "there's a lot of engagement happening on the post, in must be important" and further prioritizes it on people's feeds.

05. Share in the DMs or in Groups

If you think a prospect could benefit, or if you're in private groups who you think would be interested, share to those people/networks. But don't be spammy! Add a genuine caption which, again, says why it's important and how it helped solve your problem, "this post really taught me X" or "you were saying how you had problem X and I thought this might help." This will also help build the social proof of the product or company.

Now you just have to write the post! Check back next week for some tips on how to craft the perfect post.
